WellPoint, Inc. Takes the Prize for their Implementation Management Office

November 17, 2014 | by J. Kent Crawford

Three industries; three portfolios; one driving force - strategic project management!

We're here at the PMO Symposium in Miami Beach, where we've just had the honor of helping PMI to give out the 2014 PMO of the Year Awards. Here's the winning line-up:

2014 PMO of the Year: WellPoint, Inc. Government Business Division's Implementation Management Office (IMO)

Finalists (in alpha order):

Central Bank of the Dominican Republic's Portfolio Management Office (PMO)

DTE Energy's Major Enterprise Projects (MEP)

Three very different industries; three very different kinds of portfolios. But project management, used as a strategic resource, helped all of them to excel, meeting challenging deadlines and yielding tangible results.

You can read all about these outstanding organizations, and the award itself, in the ebook we've produced for PMI's Awards Program. The ebook also includes links to other resources, including past winners and finalists' case studies, and information on how to apply for next year's award.

And, starting tomorrow morning, and every day through Thursday, check back here on the Strategy & Projects blog to read our interviews with the leaders of these top three PMOs.

And now -- back to the celebration!

Debbie Bigelow Crawford says:

The PMO of the Year Award ceremony was terrific!  To hear how all the finalists and, of course the winner, utilized their PMOs to achieve such dramatic results was inspiring!  It wasn’t just the outcomes that were impressive, it was also their driver..social responsibility! Kudos to PMI for providing the motivation and the forum to see how project management not only changes organizations…but changes lives.
