What is the PMO of the Year® Award?
Founded by PM Solutions, the award salutes a Project Management Office that has demonstrated excellence and innovation in developing and maturing an organizational structure to support the effective management of projects. It is a showcase for PMOs that have demonstrated vision and business acumen in implementing new ideas, methods, or processes that led to measurable improvements in project management realizing business benefits for their organizations.
The PMO of the Year award also acknowledges award-winning author J. Kent Crawford, PMP, PMI Fellow, and his influence on the evolution of PMOs to what they have become today. Because of his innovation and passion for the project management profession, and specifically his influence on the proliferation of project offices, the prestige and significance behind being a PMO of the Year award recipient continues to grow.
Who is eligible to participate?
To be eligible to receive the PMO of the Year Award, the applicant must be the director or manager of the Project Management Office nominated. All corporate and government PMOs are eligible for nomination. Submissions from third-parties on behalf of a PMO are not eligible.
If your PMO isn’t an enterprise PMO are you still eligible to participate?
Yes. Enterprise PMOs as well at IT PMOs, New Product Development PMOs, or other Business Unit PMOs are eligible to participate.
Can more than one PMO from an organization participate?
Yes. The award is to the PMO, not the organization. Competition from multiple PMOs within an organization is welcome.
Can consulting, training, or other third-party providers submit an entry on behalf of an organization’s PMO?
No.
Is there an entry fee?
No.
Who will judge the entries?
An independent panel of industry practitioners and experts.
When is the entry deadline for the PMO of the Year Award?
All entries must be submitted by 11:59 pm EDT on 29 June 2012
How are the winners notified?
Semi-finalists will be announced in early August 2012, and the PMO of the Year Award Winner will be notified by e-mail later that month. Formal announcement of the winner will occur in September 2012.
What exactly does an award winner get?
The winner will be publically announced for the first time and recognized during the PMO of the Year Virtual Award Ceremony held in September, 2012. New for 2012, presentation via a virtual ceremony will allow for attendance by a large, global audience using web conferencing software. During the ceremony, led by leading PMO expert J. Kent Crawford, the best practices and accomplishments of the winning PMO will be highlighted in an educational format. The ceremony will be recorded and available for on-demand playback. The winner will also receive the prestigious crystal PMO of the Year trophy.
Each finalist will also be recognized and highlighted during the PMO of the Year Virtual Award Ceremony in September, 2012. In addition, each finalist will receive a commemorative trophy honoring their efforts.
What will be done with the information submitted in entries?
All entries will be kept in the strictest confidence. By submitting an entry, you agree that PM Solutions highlight information contained within your submission to honor the award winner and finalists via media coverage such as press releases, articles, and publications. You will have the opportunity to review any materials issued by PM Solutions or its affiliates prior to public distribution to ensure any proprietary information is excluded from them. With permission from participating organizations, PM Solutions may use information from entries in future newsletter articles and publications. Materials submitted will not be returned.
How can I get regular updates and news on the award program?
The PMO of the Year Award has its own LinkedIn group where members can exchange ideas and insights that inspire new ways of thinking on how value is created through the PMO. The award administrator regularly posts answers to questions received throughout the application process so that all aspiring applicants can benefit from the guidance.
