Verizon Wireless' Marketing PMO Tops a Distinguished List
Enterprise-wide project improvement and 100 percent project alignment with corporate strategy demonstrates the value of a well-funded, executive-supported PMO.
Verizon Wireless’ Marketing Program & Portfolio Office was named the 2012 Project Management Office (PMO) of the Year during the first-ever global Virtual Award Ceremony, led by J. Kent Crawford, CEO of PM Solutions, spotlighting the best practices of Verizon Wireless and the finalists.
This PMO was selected from a field of candidates spanning nearly every continent for surpassing all of its goals including reducing project completion cycle time by 50 percent, delivering 100 percent of top projects on time, and aligning organizational resources to the highest prioritized projects.
“Verizon Wireless’ Marketing PMO is mature, thorough, innovative, and tightly woven into the fabric of the business,” said ourindependent panel of award judges, which included PMO industry analysts, top academics, researchers, visionary authors, and previous PMO of the Year award winners. “They were challenged to deliver top projects on time 90 percent of the time. They now deliver 100 percent.”
The award recognizes Verizon Wireless’ Marketing PMO as a critical hub for smart, efficient management of the organization’s projects. The impressive results achieved by this PMO include:
- Cycle time reduced by 58 percent
- Top projects delivered 100 percent on time vs. the goal of 90 percent
- Remaining projects delivered 80 percent on time vs. the goal of 70 percent
- 100 percent alignment of resources to top projects
“We have worked very hard but it comes with rich rewards for our company and for our PMO team,” said Theo Bell, vice president – marketing PMO for Verizon Wireless (pictured here with Tami Erwin, CMO and Kent Crawford at the award presentation). “PM Solutions’ well-respected award not only recognizes our accomplishment but also celebrates the significant impact that a PMO – a highly supported PMO – can make on any organization’s long-term business goals.”
